i met a girl, whose name was josephine
her hair was blond and braided
her body brown and lean.
her feet were small and lovely
a dimple in her chin
her cheeks were smudged with chocolate
her shaggy wolf was tim.
we danced and sang
and kissed the rain
we howled with wolves
and rode a train.
we rode it down to the river green
where gypsies live and fishes swim.
a mellow flute, a drummer’s beat
a black-haired girl
and roasted meat
a wine so strong it makes you dance
the eyes so black they shake your stance
we danced and danced to the drummer’s beat
the river flew in the sensous heat
we hopped and hopped and stomped the ground
the charming gypsies’ spell was bound.
yet, in the morning we said good-bye
we cried, we hugged, we kissed a lot
a lovely night, oh, was it not?
we rode the train through valleys green
back to our home and the wolf called tim.
Josephine and her wolf called Tim.
