This is our wild happy meadow stretching all around our house. It’s a safe haven for pollinators like bees, bumblebees, beetles, grasshoppers, butterflies and birds. If you have a lawn, please, please don’t mow it so often and don’t use fertilizers, which kill off all of life. Often times when I see suburbians lawns I want to sream and cry: one single shade of green, no flowers, no butterflies, no life. The farmers’ meadows too are over-fertilized and over-sprayed and pollinators have nowhere to go anymore and nothing to eat. Nature’s been around for a couple million years! It’s rather arrogant to think we can improve upon her and enhance her beauty.
Every little flower, every bumblebee and every gnarled tree are perfect just as they are. And Nature has placed them where they are for a reason.
Enjoy your wild meadows!
